Understanding the New Border Laws in the US and Mexico

As revealed in a phone conversation between Joe Biden, the President of the United States of America, and Andres Manuel, the President of Mexico, the US and Mexico are coming together to stop the rise in illegal immigration. They want to achieve this by stopping people who attempt to cross borders illegally.

According to many reports, illegal immigration in the US and Mexico is rising to an all-time high. In a recent report, about 250,000 people want to cross the US border illegally. It has pushed the government to find a solution to this problem and push back on illegal immigration.

The US and Mexico have jointly had this problem because they share a border. This is why the two countries are coming together to enforce stricter border laws that will prevent crossing of borders illegally.

How the Countries Want to Solve the Immigration Problem

Prevention of Illegal Border Crossing

The two countries have announced that they will enforce stricter policies and laws targeting people who attempt to cross the border illegally into either of them. Preventing illegal border crossings will reduce the number of illegal immigrants.

Solving Economic Problems

Both countries admitted that one reason people migrate is to search for greener pastures. In a bid to prevent illegal immigration, the two countries have pledged to solve economic problems that will improve their citizens’ lives. The expected result of this action is a drop in the number of illegal immigrants.

Solving Security Problems

“People migrate to countries where they think they will be safe,” says immigration lawyer Mario Godoy. The two presidents agreed that the fear of losing life and property may cause people to move countries. Both countries have promised to address any security problems that might plague the countries that forced people to want to migrate illegally. The hope for this is that people are still in their original residence.

Use of Executive Authority

The US government is contemplating using the President’s executive authority to stop illegal border crossing. This authority will grant the President the power to reject any migrants at the border regardless of who they are, as long as they are attempting to enter the country illegally.

Conferment of Temporary Legal Migration Status

Another way the US government is contemplating is to grant legal status to individuals who marry US citizens but are illegal migrants. This way, they are legally not breaking the law in the country.

Granting of Work Permit

In a bid to ensure enforcement of stricter laws and caring for its citizens, the US government is also contemplating granting some illegal migrants work permits. The condition for this is that these migrants are those who marry US citizens.

Social Programs in Mexico

According to Mexico’s President, the number of illegal immigrants from Mexico to the US has reduced in recent times because of social programs in Mexico and other Latin American countries.

Why the US is Enforcing Stricter Laws

In numerous electoral polls, voters have identified immigration as a must-solve problem. It consistently ranked as the top priority of voters’ concerns.

Also, the opposition party has used the illegal immigration problem as a campaign agenda against the incumbent party. For example, the Republican Party flag bearer, Donald Trump, has publicly criticized the government’s measures in curtailing illegal immigration. He has also criticized the attempt to acquire an executive authority to reject migrants at the borders.
