Arizona Road Accident Statistics

The Motor Vehicle Crash Facts from the Arizona Department of Transportation show the rates of car accidents in the Grand Canyon State. As personal injury attorney Jeffrey Phillips of Phillips Law Group Injury Lawyers puts it, “The ADOT report gives a detailed analysis of the causes of car accidents in Arizona, where they occur, how they happen, and the contributing factors. It’s a great resource to help motorists stay informed about statistics and trends in road safety.”

Here are key things to note from the 2023 Crash Facts Report:

  • Road accidents killed three people every day in 2023
  • One person lost their life every six hours
  • More than 100 people sustained car accident-related injuries every day
  • DUIs were involved in about 4 percent of the total and 25 percent of the fatal crashes
  • Most car accidents occur during the day
  • The State of Arizona suffered more than $21.638 billion in damages due to road accidents
  • 36 fatalities involved children below the age of 14, whereas more than 3,000 young kids were injured in road accidents.

Steps to Take if You Are Involved in a Car Accident

Car accidents can happen at any time and to anyone, even when you adhere to traffic rules. Staying informed of the steps to take should you become a victim is therefore important. Here is a rundown of the steps to take in the aftermath of a crash:

Check for Injuries

The first thing you should do in the aftermath of a road accident is to ascertain whether you, your passengers, or anyone next to you is hurt.

Call 911

The next step is calling for help. Dial 911 on your phone and give the responder a detailed account of what just happened. Let them know if you or anyone else is injured, as well as your location.

Get to Safety

If you are in a position to do so, get to safety by the side of the road where there’s no traffic. It’s unwise to try and move your car, bicycle, or motorcycle until at least after police have arrived at the scene. Moving the vehicle could interfere with evidence.

See a Doctor

Once the EMTs arrive on the scene, get medical attention, even when you feel fine. You see, adrenaline could be masking the pain and injuries you sustained. At the same time, some symptoms take time to start showing, so it’s important to seek immediate medical attention.

Capture Evidence

If you can, try to take some photos and videos of the crash scene. Make sure to capture important details such as the injuries you have sustained, the damages to the car and property, and the weather conditions at the time of the accident. If there’s anyone who might have seen the events that led up to the crash, get their details as well.

Call Your Lawyer

Finally, call your attorney, and if you don’t have one, it’s time to start looking. You can turn to your friends and family for recommendations for a good personal injury attorney or look for personal injury attorneys on review sites and look for potential attorneys on review sites such as Avvo and Justia.

Conclusion

Arizona is no stranger to high rates of car accidents. Last year, reports showed that one person lost their life every six hours in a crash. It’s important to stay aware of the steps to take should you find yourself a victim, such as calling 911, taking evidence, and informing your attorney.
